Famed for centuries for its hospitality, Gregynog still offers a warm Welsh welcome today

Come and stay at Gregynog

Gregynog’s historic interiors are filled with Davies-era furnishings and retain the period charm and atmosphere of a bygone age.

The Hall still conveys a real sense of history and fellow feeling for the generations who have passed through its venerated corridors: attending concerts or participating in debate in our Music Room; benefitting from the restorative aspects of our gardens and natural landscapes, then relaxing in the elegant Drawing Room; taking in the rich history of the 1636 carved oak wainscoting in the Blayney Room; studying in the Library or appreciating the original artworks and antiques on display; and, of course, after the exhilaration of the day having a good night’s rest in what are now our heritage bedrooms, with magnificent views over the gardens.

In the 1920s and 30s, Gregynog hosted a myriad house guests of international acclaim: world famous musicians such as Edward Elgar, Gustav Holst, Ralph Vaughan Williams, and Benjamin Britten; actors Joyce Grenfell and Dame Sybil Thorndike; artists Paul Nash, Matthew Smith and Gertrude Hermes; writers George Bernard Shaw and Herbert Read; and, from the world of politics, William Wardorf Astor and Nancy Astor, social reformer Violet Markham, and Prime Minister Stanley Baldwin.

The Hall loves parties and comes alive when it is full of people, music and animated conversation. So, come stay with us and discover for yourself just what makes Gregynog such a special place!

Gregynog Hall is most definitely a work in progress. For more than sixty years if was run by the University of Wales as an intercollegiate residential conference centre. The independent charitable Gregynog Trust took over the management of the Hall and Estate in July 2019 and is currently fundraising to upgrade the property and re-roof the main house. The paths on the Estate are being repaired and made more accessible thanks to support from the Nature Networks Fund through the Welsh Government.
