Borderlines: A feast of folk from along Offa’s Dyke

Join us at Gregynog for a feast of folk ! You can even stay the night at the Hall!

Haress are based in the Shropshire Hills. Their music is rooted in the feel and tradition of British folk but expands out of any genre boundaries, through the use of improvisation, texture and amplification.
Jacken Elswyth is a London-based folk musician, banjo player, and instrument builder.
In her music making she is focused on exploring traditional tunes, developing extrapolations on folk styles and techniques, and investigating drone, ambience, and improvisation within and beyond folk music
ALULA DOWN (Kate Gathercole & Mark Waters) make music that is born of relationships, exploring connection with the land and with the magic and ordinariness of our human-being. With eclectic musical roots, they make use of collage, improvisation and field recording. Their explorations of folk song and their own self written songs are underpinned with drone and textured soundscape.

Jude Rogers, The Guardian, August 2020: Alula Down
”Echoing rain blends with shuddering drones and lyrics. Post-rock and ambient fans will relish the shape-shifting textures. Gathercole’s voice is featherlight and meaningful, recalling Vashti Bunyan and late 60s private-press folk, tethering the listener to every syllable.”
